Akeake Art Space

We have begun our Eric Carle inspired insect collages.

The children have explored painting paper with a range of tools. They used toothbrushes, sponges, film canisters, toothpicks, toy cars, lego blocks, ice block sticks and bubble wrap to create patterns and texture with acrylic paint.

CRT Art in Totara

The Totara team have produced some fantastic symmetry sketches. We used photos from the animal kingdom. (Not sure if there are a few self portraits hiding amongst them ;)

Our learning focus was on symmetry and proportion. We then used coloured pencils to explore a bit of shading and texture.

Individual Writing Goals

All learners in Kopapa West have individual writing goals in their writing books.

These goals are dynamic in that they are monitored and updated as the writers' skills and focus change. These goals are discussed with the learner when they conference with the teacher at writing time. Whilst the assessment of the goals is initially driven by the teacher (T), the learner is guided and encouraged to assess their own progress (S). Each goal is assessed  and dated against the evidence  in the learners' writing tasks.

Professional Development Liz Kane Literacy

As a staff, we have been gathering data on the phonological awareness and skills of our learners. We have identified areas of need. Children have been grouped according to their areas and stages of need and strength.
Our Literacy focus for 2019, is to ensure that all learners across the school are equipped in 'The Code' of literacy learning. All learners will be supported and monitored in learning to decode and encode with skill and confidence. The implementation  involves a paradigm shift in the way we are used to teaching, and we are looking forward to embarking on this new path in a consistent, school wide journey.

CRT Art for Akeake Hunderwasser Trees

For the beginning of Term 1, the Akeake children are learning about collage.
We have created layered paper 'lollipop trees' in the style of the artist Hunderwasser.
The completed artworks are currently displayed in Kopapa East where they look pretty fabulous!

Kaiapoi Art Expo

I had the opportunity to work with a large group of children aged from 7-13, to create art pieces for a local exhibition at the Kaiapoi Library. The theme of the exhibition was 'Kiwi Summer'.
A group of Year 3/4 learners made 3D jandals with a pastel or coloured pencil NZ theme, the Year 5/6 group painted beach scenes with acrylic paint on corrugated iron.
The Year 8 group made a stencil of the iconic 4 Square man and used paint and spray paint to complete their canvas.
